What to look for in a desktop deal

Desktop deals here range from about $650 for compact mini PCs to $2,300 for gaming towers, from Dell, HP and Apple as well as mini-PC makers like GMKtec and BOSGAME. Start with memory: 16GB of RAM is a comfortable minimum today, and 32GB helps with video editing or heavy multitasking. Check whether memory and storage can be upgraded later; on a Mac mini and many all-in-ones they can’t, so buy the size you need up front.

For gaming, the graphics card matters more than the processor, so compare the GPU model directly instead of relying on a “gaming” label. Mini PCs save space and power but usually have limited graphics and cooling. Check the ports you need, such as front USB, Thunderbolt or USB4 and the number of display outputs, and note that most desktop deals don’t include a monitor, keyboard or mouse.
